Death of infant ruled as a homicide

The death of a female infant last week in Red Deer has been ruled as a homicide.

On Nov. 25 at 8:30 p.m., Red Deer City RCMP received a complaint of injuries sustained by an infant. At approximately 6:30 p.m, a four-month old girl was brought to Red Deer Regional Hospital suffering from life-threatening head injuries. She was later transported by Stars Air Ambulance to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. RCMP were contacted after the infant arrived at the Edmonton Hospital.

The following day at about 1:15 a.m., the infant died of her injuries.

An autopsy was performed at the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday where the death was ruled as a homicide.

The name of the infant is not being released at this time.

Red Deer City RCMP General Investigation Section continue to investigate with assistance from RCMP K Division Major Crimes Unit and Red Deer RCMP Forensic Investigation Section.

RCMP are not releasing any further information at this time.
