Ignition Theatre presents Rent star Adam Pascal

Tony Award nominee Adam Pascal is making several special appearances at The Matchbox Theatre April 14-16 as part of Ignition Theatre’s ‘Live From New York’ series.

Curtain is 7:30 p.m. each night.

Pascal is the original star of the Broadway blockbuster Rent, and a host of other musicals including Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA and the critically acclaimed revival of Cabaret.

Joined by musical director, composer, arranger and accompanist Larry Edoff, Pascal will hit the stage with a slate of memorable arrangements of Broadway standards along with tunes made famous by a number of artists and groups from The Beatles to Pink Floyd. Other musical highlights will include One Song Glory from Rent, Maybe This Time from Cabaret and Billy Joel’s New York State of Mind.

In his younger days, Pascal started out as a rock musician playing in a number of bands formed with schoolmates, but eventually became drawn to the musical theater. According to Wikipedia, a friend of his from high school, who at the time was dating fellow Syosset graduate Idina Menzel, mentioned the upcoming production of Rent to him. Pascal decided to audition and was ultimately cast as the HIV positive rock guitarist Roger Davis.

A new and extraordinary direction was struck and Pascal has been garnering critical and popular acclaim ever since

In 2005, Pascal reprised his role as Roger Davis in the film version of Rent before rejoining the Broadway production in 2009. He’s has also recently performed in CHESS at the Royal Albert Hall in London alongside Idina Menzel and singer Josh Groban.

Meanwhile, staff at Ignition Theatre couldn’t be more thrilled to present the gifted artist to local audiences.

“When we began Ignition Theatre, it was always our goal to bring a taste of Broadway to Red Deer,” explains Matt Grue, Ignition Theatre’s artistic director.

“Never in our wildest imaginations did we anticipate the dream would come to life so literally.”

The ‘Live From New York’ series has already presented Broadway musical director Seth Rudetsky and Youtube sensation Miranda Sings over this past season.
