Red Deer RCMP charge man with trafficking after drug seizure

Charges come after police conducted a search warrant on a home in Oriole Park

  • Feb. 28, 2017 6:28 p.m.

Red Deer RCMP seized 2.5 ounces of meth and a Red Deer man faces a drug trafficking charge after a search warrant at a home in the Oriole Park neighbourhood on Feb. 23rd.

Red Deer RCMP began their investigation of possible drug trafficking activity at an address on Ogilvie Close in early January, after receiving numerous tips from the public and other intelligence sources.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Feb. 23rd, RCMP took five people into custody as they departed the residence on foot and in vehicles; those arrests were all made without incident, and police then executed a search warrant on the home, seizing 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

One Red Deer man faces charges as a result of the search warrant. A woman arrested at the residence was wanted on outstanding warrants and was taken into custody for those warrants. The other three (two women and one man) were released without charge.

A 40-year-old Red Deer man will face charges for drug possession and possession of what is alleged to be crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking.

His name cannot be released at this time as those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts; he is scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on March 23rd at 9:30 am.

“This successful investigation and drug seizure is thanks to the vigilance of the public,” said Cpl. Robert Schultz of the Red Deer RCMP GIS unit. “The address was brought to our attention through a number of complaints from a variety of sources, and it’s an excellent example of how reporting suspicious activity can lead to the disruption of criminal activity in your neighbourhood. We thank the community for the important role they play in being the eyes and ears in every neighbourhood in the City.”
