City of Red Deer warns public about email scam

City received reports of suspicious emails that requires people to re-enter banking information

The City’s Revenue and Assessment Services department is warning customers of an email scam. The City has received reports of suspicious emails that appear to be coming from the City noting a change in the Tax Installment Plan (TIP) that requires them to re-enter their banking information.

TIP customers are asked to use caution if they receive an email requesting banking and other personal information and not to respond or click any links before they can ensure the authenticity of the email.

The City will not ask for banking information through email but they will use email to alert customers of changes to the TIP program.

Customers can take the following precautions to verify if a suspicious email was sent from the City or not:

 Verify the sender’s email address (not the sender name) to ensure the email has come from a reddeer.ca email address.

 If you are still unsure, please can contact our Revenue and Assessment Services department directly at assessment@reddeer.ca or 403-342-8126 to confirm.

Anyone who has received this email and provided personal information is asked to contact RCMP.
