The Liberal party promise of last week to extend benefits to caregivers in the home is music to my ears and I am not a Liberal.

I have, however, spent 30 years trying to get governments to value the vital work of caregivers. The Conservative party recently announced that family caregivers of military vets will be funded.

The women’s rights movement hit a stalemate when we were only recognized for paid work outside the home.

I predict the next federal election will have a fierce bidding war for the votes of caregivers.

It’s about time.
