Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate a number of unrelated collisions over the weekend, including one that knocked out power to the downtown on Saturday night through to Sunday morning.

RCMP were called to the area of 48th Ave. between 53rd St. and 54th St. shortly after 11 p.m. on Jan. 28th, after a mini-van struck a power pole and several parked vehicles.

The collision with the power pole resulted in the downtown core being without electricity until the morning.

The driver of the van, a 42-year-old Red Deer man, was trapped in his vehicle for approximately 20 minutes while emergency crews removed the power pole. He was taken to hospital for examination but did not suffer any notable injury in the collision. RCMP continue to investigate all possible avenues regarding this collision; charges have not been laid at this time.

RCMP were called to the Sport Chek located at 5001 19th St. shortly before 5 p.m. on Jan. 29th after a white Dodge Ram truck struck the store, smashing through a window near the entrance.

City of Red Deer fire and EMS attended and checked the 53-year-old male driver for injuries before releasing him. As a result of the police investigation, the driver was issued a 24 hour roadside suspension and charged with careless driving. No one was injured in this collision.

RCMP responded to break-in attempt at 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 30th after a white Ford truck backed into the front door at Moores The Suit People, located at 6320 50th Ave. The suspects stole some clothing from the store and departed before police officers arrived. RCMP continue to investigate.
