The Catalina Swim Club took the trophy for top team at the annually Poppy Invitational Swim Meet held in Edmonton recently.
A total of 26 swimmers from the Red Deer Club won medals with 15 swimmers capturing gold.
This was our first opportunity of the new 2008-2009 season to have a substantial team presence at provincial level invitational swim meet, said head coach Sam Montgomery. It was great to see so many strong individual performances so early in the competitive year. We have shown that we have a good foundation to build upon.
At the meet, David Errington, Nicole Cossey, Kaitlyn Little, Morgann Bruin and Brianna Bailey all qualified for the Western Canadian Championships to be held in Edmonton in February.
