11/19/08

Red Deer City Soccer Association will host the Boys Indoor Kickoff Soccer Tournament this weekend with 43 teams expected to participate.

Tier 1 and Tier 2 boys teams from U10 to U18 will take part in the tournament which will be held Friday to Sunday at the Collicutt Centre.

This past weekend, the soccer association hosted the Girls Indoor Kickoff Tournament with 42 teams taking part.

Competition was keen and the crowd was treated to some excellent soccer action.

Executive director of Red Deer City Soccer Association, Colleen Lameris said the tournament went well with a good crowd in attendance.

“We were very pleased,” she said. “It went well. We had a lot of spectators go through the doors.”

Two Red Deer teams won bronze medals at the tourney.

Red Deer Renegades captured the bronze medal in the U12 Girls T1 category. Goal scorers for the U12 Renegades were Nicole Friedl with four, Cierra Stephens and Ashlynn Morrison, each with two and Tara Sudlow with one.

It was close, but the bronze medal in the U16 Girls T1 ended up going to the Edmonton Xtreme after the out-of-town team defeated Red Deer United 5-3 Sunday.
