Full selection of jewellery

Mitchell & Jewell, a long standing business in Red Deer, has been voted the Best Jewellery Store in the Express’ Best of Red Deer Awards.
“It’s always good to hear something like that,” said Sherry Heffernan, general manager of Mitchell & Jewell. “It means people know we’re out there especially with the growing community.”
The jewellery store opened as A.B. Mitchell Jewellers in 1919 by A.B. Mitchell.
When he was looking to retire, he partnered up with R.M. (Bob) Jewell who then changed the store name to Mitchell & Jewell.
In 1978, Bob’s son Dick began working full time at the jewellery store eventually taking over the operation in 1989 after his parents retired.
“It’s been three generations that have owned it – two of which are from the same family,” said Heffernan.
Today, Mitchell & Jewell has a full selection of jewellery including bridal sets, engagement rings, earrings, watches, pendants and a variety of chains, among others.
Heffernan said one of the things that sets Mitchell & Jewell apart from other jewellery stores in the city is the uniqueness in the products they carry.
“We have some custom design work we can do,” she said. “We have a fellow from B.C. who does his own line that is very popular. It’s a little unique but it’s very wearable.”
Heffernan said she also believes excellent customer service sets the store apart from others as well.
Heffernan added they offer a variety of jewellery for all budget levels.
“In respect to that, we’re also able to find what we may not have in the store,” she said. “Whether it be some custom work or a particular diamond.”
In addition, Heffernan said Red Deer is a unique place to do business.
“Red Deer has been a very friendly city and an easy city to be in,” she said.
Mitchell & Jewell staffs 13 people, many of whom have been employed by the company for years.
