Red Deer Lighting Centre’s solid reputation of excellent service and its quality selection of lighting, pictures, mirrors and accessories has not gone unnoticed.
The store has claimed top spot for the Best of Red Deer Awards in the Best Lighting Store category for several years.
This year was no exception.
Sales manager Ryan Philip said he was not surprised to learn they had won top honours, but was pleased with the top spot.
Red Deer Lighting is a family owned business which opened more than 20 years ago. Originally located in the north end of Red Deer, the store moved to Southpointe Common in November of 2005.
The store is owned by Bob and Gwen Philip who continue to remain involved in the business. Their son Ryan is the sales manager.
Philip is proud of the store and strives to keep on the cutting edge of the ever changing lighting industry.
“We try to move slow moving stock out the door as quickly as possible. If you sit on those items the look of the store becomes stagnant ”
To keep up to date on the latest in lighting and accessories, Philip attends a lighting show held twice a year in Dallas.
“The looks change every year,” he said. “The big push now is for energy star rated fixtures.”
Customers are also looking for decorative lighting, he said.
“It’s like adding art to your home. For example, a crystal chandelier over the dining room table can be a real eyecatcher.”
Red Deer Lighting primarily carries lighting for new home construction, but also has some commercial stock available.
Red Deer Lighting Centre offers its customers a wide variety of lighting products, lamps, pictures, accessories and mirrors.
“We have everything from traditional to contemporary, to way out. We have to bring in what people are looking for.”
Philip said Red Deer Lighting was the only lighting store in the city for several years, but now has competition.
“We were the only player in the market, but that has changed. Competition is good. It keeps you on your toes.”
Red Deer Lighting’s customer base includes the city and outlying areas as far away as Ponoka, Didsbury, Rocky Mountain House and Stettler. Some customers also travel from Calgary and Edmonton.
Philip said the store owes its success to excellent staff and loyal customers.
