Film festival in town

Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour returns to Red Deer Jan. 8-9. This annual fundraiser for the Kerry Wood Nature Centre features the best mountain-themed sport, nature, adventure and culture films from around the world shown at the annual Banff Mountain Film Festival.
Revenues support ongoing environmental education and sustainability projects at the nature centre and benefit the community at large.
Tickets are $16 each per night or $30 each for both nights and can be purchased at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre or Valhalla Pure Outfitters.

Book launch at Museum
The Central Alberta Historical Society is holding a book launch at the Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery Jan. 15 at 2 p.m.
Settlement Tales of West Central Alberta: The Markerville Story will be released and the monthly society meeting runs that evening at 7:30 p.m. as well featuring guest speaker Dr. Chris Hale of the University of Alberta.

Lacombe Christian Women’s Club
The Lacombe Christian Women‘s Club meets Jan. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lacombe Kozy Korner.
The theme of the event is ‘Looking Ahead to a New Year’.
Valerie from the Sugar Free & More Store and Tandy Balson will be speaking and there will be music provided by Herb and Crystal Taylor.
Cost of attending is $8 which includes dessert and refreshments.
