Don’t put off flu shots: officials
11/19/08

Walk-in clinics for influenza immunization may be winding down, but health officials are still urging the public to book a flu shot.
There is only one remaining walk-in clinic for vaccination in Red Deer — Dec. 3 at Kentwood Alliance Church from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
If folks can’t make it, they can book an appointment at their local community health centre or doctor’s office.
“It’s never too late to get it,” said Dr. Martin Lavoie, medical officer of health for the David Thompson Health Region.
Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus.
And although it hasn’t been seen too much across the DTHR yet, Lavoie said the worst months are December through to March.
Most people with influenza will get better within a week, but those with chronic illnesses, children under two years of age and adults over 65 years can develop severe complications from the disease which can include pneumonia.
