Crash kills Penhold man

A Penhold man is dead following a two-vehicle crash east of Red Deer.

At about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 members from the Red Deer rural RCMP and city emergency crews responded to the collision, about 10 kms east of Red Deer on Hwy. 595.

The RCMP investigation revealed a westbound truck lost control coming up a hill and was struck by an eastbound on-coming pick-up truck.

The collision resulted in the westbound driver, a 54-year -old male from Penhold, being pronounced deceased on scene.

The eastbound vehicle consisted of a family of three from Alix, including an infant.

The infant and mother were transported to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with non life threatening injuries.

The father was not injured.

Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash and the investigation is on-going.

No charges have been laid at this time.

Cops pursue bandit

Innisfail RCMP is searching for the bandit who held up a liquor.

At 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 28 RCMP responded to a robbery at a local liquor store, located on 50 Ave. in Innisfail.

Police said a lone male wearing a balaclava and blue coveralls entered the liquor store and told the lone employee he wanted the money from the register.

The employee provided an undisclosed amount of money. No weapon was shown or observed.

The male departed the scene on foot. The employee was unharmed.

The bandit is described as about 6 ft., and weighing between 160 to 180 lbs.

RCMP is continuing its investigation.
