Red Deer County Mayor Earl Kinsella still remains in hospital after contracting an infection following surgery.
Kinsella underwent surgery about a month ago.
“He had minor complications with an infection and his hospital stay has been extended,” said Deputy Mayor David Hoar, recently.
“The good news is that indications show his condition is much improved.”
Kinsella is currently being given day passes, but is being kept at the hospital indefinitely until his infection clears up.
At a meeting two weeks ago, County council unanimously voted in favour of authorizing Kinsella’s absence from council meetings from Oct. 7 until such time he is able to return.
There is no word yet on when Kinsella will be released from the hospital or when he is expected to return to his duties at Red Deer County.
Kinsella has served on Red Deer County council since 1989.
He has been in the position of mayor, formally known as the reeve, for the past six years.
Last year was a historic year for Red Deer County as they changed the name of reeve to mayor.
