Truck thieves cause ball diamond damage

Red Deer Mounties are searching for the culprits who stole a dump truck, drove through north end ball diamonds and caused extensive damage.
At about 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 14 Red Deer city RCMP responded to a complaint that a dump truck was stolen in Edgar Industrial Park.
At about 9:45 p.m. a tractor trailer unit carrying a Triple 7 Mining haul truck destined for Fort McMurray was parked in the ball diamond parking lot along Edgar Industrial Dr. The trailer was detached from the tractor and left in the parking lot for about 45 minutes.
RCMP said unknown persons entered the truck and drove it forward off of the trailer causing extensive damage to both the truck and trailer.
The culprits then drove the truck through the ball diamonds, destroying property and leaking heavy equipment oil.
City of Red Deer Environmental Services was called out and is still determining the environmental impact of the oil leak.
City of Red Deer Parks and Recreation and the Central Alberta Slow Pitch Association have not yet determined a damage estimate to the ball diamonds.
The dollar value of damage to both the truck and trailer has also not yet been determined.
Red Deer city RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the culprit or culprits responsible for this crime.

Cops nab store bandit suspect
A Red Deer man has been arrested in connection to a pair of separate armed robberies at the same convenience store.
Red Deer city RCMP arrested David Messervey, a 34-year-old Red Deer resident, and charged him with the Aug. 31 and Nov. 10 robberies of the Eastview Express 24 Foodmart, located at 140 Erickson Dr.
Messervey was remanded in custody and appeared in Red Deer provincial court this week.
Meanwhile, RCMP said a second male involved in the robbery is still at large.
He is described as a Caucasian male, in his mid-20s, a regular build and wearing a black shirt with a white logo.
RCMP said the robbers left the store and area in a lighter coloured sport utility vehicle or truck that had been parked in the alley.

Police hunt Burger Boy bandit
Red Deer city RCMP continue to request the public’s assistance in identifying the culprit responsible for an armed robbery at the Burger Boy on 54 Ave.
Police said the outlet was robbed by a lone male wielding a knife.
The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. None of the employees were injured.
Surveillance photos of the male were obtained.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, in his late 20s to early 30s, having brown facial hair – goatee, wearing a red jacket with black shoulder and arms, and a black hoodie under his jacket with hood covering his head.
The RCMP continue to investigate.

Cops probing hit and run
City Mounties are investigating a hit and run incident in the Deer Park neighbourhood.
At about 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 14, Red Deer city RCMP responded to a hit and run collision along Dempsey St.
RCMP said between 3:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., a 2003 grey GMC Sierra pick-up truck was struck by an unknown vehicle.
It had been parked in the 200 block of Dempsey St.
Police said witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, and noting damage to the parked pick-up truck.
RCMP is looking for a white shaded vehicle. Police said the vehicle would have significant passenger side damage.
Red Deer city RCMP continue to investigate.

Suspicious trailer fire investigated
Investigators continue to probe a north end residential fire to determine whether it was deliberately set.
Shortly before midnight on Nov. 9, Red Deer city RCMP responded to assist Red Deer Emergency Services at a fire in the Normandeau neighbourhood.
Firefighters attended a structure fire in the Northwood Estates Trailer Park, located at 5344 - 76 St.
The front living room portion of the trailer was damaged by the fire. No one was in the residence at the time.
Red Deer city RCMP and Red Deer Emergency Services fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of this fire.
Several witnesses saw unknown persons near the trailer before flames engulfed the residence.
RCMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or persons in the area to contact Red Deer city RCMP at 403-343-5575.
