LIFESTYLE Story:  2
Become fit for life

09/03/08

The first bi-annual Be Fit for Life Challenge kicks off this month.

Deadline to register is Sept. 9.

“This is a great program for anyone looking to become active, lose weight or just live a healthier lifestyle,” said Aspen Haynes, appraisal services coordinator for the Kevin Sirois Fitness Resource Centre at Red Deer College.

Participants in the 15 week individualized challenge will receive initial, mid and final appraisal with a certified exercise physiologist.

Participants will also receive help on goal setting depending on their needs, a month long meal plan, an e-log, weekly fitness tips and three wellness education programs as well as 12 exercise classes.

“This is about getting people active for life,” said Haynes. “It’s also a great program because we offer guidance to the participants.”

Weekly exercise classes will begin on Sept. 9 and run every Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. until Dec. 16.

“We’re aiming to have at least 25 people sign up,” said Haynes. “Right now we have about 15 so far.”

She added the challenge is not limited to 25 people, more spots are also available.

“Anyone can join,” said Haynes. “If participants are younger than 18 years old they do need parental consent to participate.”

Haynes said it is hoped the challenge will take place twice a year.

“We’re hoping to have a challenge in the fall and then in the winter,” she said.

The cost of the challenge is $175 plus GST.

To register call (403) 357-3663.

Or for more information call the Kevin Sirois Centre at (403) 342-3134.
