BUSINESS Story:  2
Local Jazzercise on TV

11/19/08

A Red Deer business owner has been selected to have a segment of one of her Jazzercise classes aired on cable television.

Arlene Hjertaas, who owns and operates Jazzercise Fitness Center in the Cronquist Business Park, has been chosen to be part of a television promotional segment for Western Canada that is to be aired on cable networks throughout the prairies and B.C. Telus TV taped an interview segment with Hjertaas and filmed a one hour live Jazzercise class with local participants, Tuesday.

A seven or eight minute segment will be used from the filming and aired for 45 days on cable throughout Western Canada.

The segment is intended to provide cable viewers with information on health and wellness and as an advertising tool for Jazzercise franchisees throughout Western Canada.

Hjertaas is pleased to have been selected for the filming.

“It’s exciting,” she said. “I’m pleased that the company has recognized my success by choosing me to represent Western Canadian instructors (on television).

She said Jazzercise is an excellent program and needs to be promoted.

“It is a very good program, but not as big in Canada as it is in the United States. This filming will help promote Jazzerise in the area.”

Hjertaas has owned and operated a Jazzercise franchise in Red Deer since 1989.

“The fitness industry is a very difficult one to be successful in and Red Deer has had its share of fitness businesses that have come and gone since then,” she said. “My success and longevity in business in Red Deer speaks for itself. We work really hard at providing a fun, highly intense workout. If fitness isn’t fun and effective people won’t do it.”

Jazzercise is a dance fitness program involving cardio, strength and flexibility training done to modern music.
