The Red Deer Express is carrying on a tradition which began with the launch of the Adviser by L.D. Rideout in 1946.
Although various names were used on newspaper publications produced by the Rideout family in the city including Weekender, Midweeker, Red Deer Adviser and Sunday Express it wasn't until June 1996 that a community newspaper similar to what you see today hit the streets.
Another turning point came in December 1995 when the publishing assets of the Rideout's Red Deer Adviser Publications were purchased by Great West Newspapers, LP.
The partnership has newspapers in several Alberta communities. The president of Great West Newspapers is Duff Jamison, publisher of the St. Albert Gazette. Paul Rockley, publisher of the Okotoks Western Wheel, is executive vice president.
Great West is committed to producing quality community newspapers and offers advertising clients markets throughout Alberta.
Other Great West publications include: Athabasca Advocate, Barrhead Leader, Bonnyville Nouvelle, Carstairs Courier, Didsbury Review, Elk Point Review, FFWD Weekly (Calgary), Innisfail Province, Lac La Biche Post, Mountain View Gazette, Okotoks Western Wheel, Olds Albertan, Rocky View Weekly, St. Albert Gazette, St. Paul Journal, SEE Magazine (Edmonton), Sundre Round Up, Town & Country, Westlock News, Wheel & Deal (Alberta edition) and Wheel & Deal (Prairie edition).
