On smoking

11/12/08
Smoking is probably one of the most problematic obsessions that we teens have. We think that it is cool and that people will think highly of us if we do it.
Basically, we believe that we will fit in better if we conform to what everyone around us is doing, but do we really know what we are doing to our bodies if we smoke?
Do we realize that every time we pull out a cigarette and light it, we are damaging our bodies almost past the point of repair? I do not think so.
I am not a smoker but I know and see people my age who are and I do not think that they realize the harm that they are doing to themselves.
There are over a dozen diseases that can be a result from smoking, such as lung cancer, leukemia, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, etc.
Most of these diseases are life threatening and may cause permanent damage and a shorter, lower quality of life.
Smokers also will have problems in gym class, walking up stairs, getting to their classes and everything else that includes any physical activity!
It is very addictive once someone starts. Believing they will quit once it starts affecting their health, they will find that it is very, very difficult to stop because their body will crave the nicotine. Is smoking even really that cool?
When you see people smoking do you think, hey, I want to do that and be just like them. I know I do not!I almost pity their bad decisions and how it is going to affect their lives in the future.
So before you take that first puff think to yourself, Is this something I want to be doing for the rest of my life?
