BUSINESS Story:  1
Alternative health treatments at Eden

12/24/08

Folks looking for alternative treatments to common health problems have a relatively new option in Red Deer.

Eden Health Systems, located at #5, 6200 - 67A St., first opened its doors last August.

Some of the services offered include private infrared saunas with showers and use of natural shampoo and body products, said Deirdre Hay, who co-owns the business with her husband Carey.

“They’re totally relaxing,” said Deirdre of the saunas, adding they work to relax and detoxify your body.

Visitors can purchase 30 or 45 minute stints.

Besides being a healthy venture, the experience leaves users feeling refreshed and clean, she said.

“It’s like you’ve showered everything on the inside – that’s how good you feel.”

She said the saunas are also helpful for any type of injury because of the improved circulation they stimulate, she said.

Eden Health Systems also carries two lines of organic bath and body products unique to Red Deer, she said.

For those looking specifically for a strengthening exercise session, the Noblerex Whole Body Vibration machines provide 10-minute workouts to bolster muscle flexibility, balance and toning.

For those looking to unwind after a hectic day, infrared massage beds offer simulated acupressure and soft heat treatment that restores energy, relieves aches and pains and improves blood flow.

Automatic infrared ray projectors roll along the neck and spine.

“The dome closes up to your head, and the whole bed heats,” she said, adding that users remain fully clothed but comfortable for the half-hour massage. “It’s definitely a very warm massage.”

There are also alkaline water ionizers to restore natural pH balances by helping to flush out acidic pH levels.

There is also a special light designed to help people dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder.

“You would stand in front of it for about 10 minutes a session.”

So far, feedback for the business has been promising as they work to bolster their presence.

“The response so far has been good,” she said, adding the services can also be used to enhance weight loss.

“My primary concern is health, but definitely you burn about 300 calories in one sauna session, and you burn calories in these Whole Body Vibration machines.”

Customers can check out a variety of packages and pricing for the services.
