CITY PULSE Story:  6
More Bull Skit set for The Matchbox

12/17/08

It’s time for another night of comedy with Bull Skit – set for Dec. 20 at The Matchbox.

Presented by Against the Wall Theatre, doors open at 7 p.m. with showtime at 8 p.m.

The cast includes Richard Meen, Jesse Dahl, Matt Dale, Whitney Grace and Jenna Goldade.

A special highlight will be a performance of Holiday Play by Taylor Chadwick. This Time Only (a local barbershop quartet) will be onhand to entertain as well.

Against the Wall Theatre was spearheaded by Jenna Goldade and Amy Erlandson this past fall.

To help support the emerging company, the first Bull Skit – an evening packed with improv, sketch comedy and music — was held in late November.

It proved a hit with the community, said Goldade.

“It went really well, and we sold out which was fantastic. We also got a lot of really good feedback about it.”

Bull Skit has subsequently been scheduled as a once-per-month event with the next one slated for Jan. 16.

“We also want to offer a lot of variety,” she said. “I think people love comedy, and I didn’t like the fact they had to drive to Calgary or Edmonton to see improv and sketch material.”

Goldade said she loves the fun of not only performing sketch comedy but writing it as well.

She and Erlandson do the bulk of the writing for Bull Skit events.

Finding the right blend of comedic elements is something of a challenge – albeit a delightful one.

“The hardest part is finding the right mix of comedy an audience will enjoy,” she said. In future months, she hopes to pen material that relates more to current events and the political scene as well.

Meanwhile, working with other Red Deer College theatre studies alumni is also a blast, and Goldade said Bull Skit offers them an additional chance to perform locally.

Current students from the program are also involved, and again Bull Skit offers a great opportunity for them to hone their theatrical skills.

“We want audiences to get to know these emerging artists in the community.”

Tickets for Bull Skit are $20 for adults and $16.50 for students.
