Alt-rockers Finger Eleven here this weekend

11/05/08
It’s been quite the year for Burlington, Ontario alt-rockers Finger Eleven in the wake of their fired-up spring release Them vs. You vs. Me.
The disc continues to attract new fans, even landing the band with a coveted Juno this year for Rock Album of the Year.
They’re dropping by The Lotus Lounge Nov. 7 with special guests The Dudes. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The band’s five members collectively wrote and recorded more than 100 tunes during the process of making the disc.
Sounds heard on the project were amassed via recording across Canada and encouraging versatility in the process was the name of the game. Beyond the obvious mix of guitars and drums, listeners hear everything from violin, xylophone and banjo.
The disc was also recorded faster than any other Finger Eleven record (less than three months) although the first single Paralyzer was the result of the longest period ever spent on a single tune in the studio (two weeks).
Paralyzer has spelled immense success for the guys on many levels, breaking the Canadian Rock Radio Record for most consecutive weeks at #1.
It held the #1 position on Much Music’s top 30 countdown, landed two MMVA nominations and has also received platinum certification for digital single sales.
Meanwhile, the new project continues to break new ground and the guys aren’t wary of venturing into a string of genres ranging from rock to country to dance to funk to old ‘60s songs.
Many were written by exchanging files over the Internet, wherein one person would track a home recording, send it off into cyberspace and then someone else would build on it and send it on down the line.
It marked quite the creative process, as many of the final cuts were demo-ed and re-recorded at least four times over a period of one and a half years, undergoing enormous changes each time.
In the meantime, their hard work has richly paid off, landing them platinum status for the disc.
The third single I’ll Keep Your Memory Vague hit top five at radio as well and the video notched the top spot on Much More Music.
It all points to the seamless creative vibe this group has fashioned over the past 16 years.
Rounding out the band are guitarists James Black and Rick Jackett, singer Scott Anderson, bassist Sean Anderson and drummer Rich Beddoe.
They launched Them vs. You vs. Me with a performance of Paralyzer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This was the second appearance for the quintet on that legendary stage, while they have also been welcomed by Jimmy Kimmel and Regis & Kelly.
As for The Dudes (Dan Vacon, Bob Quaschnick, Chris Vail and Scott Ross) they’ve been making their mark for several years now.
Based in Calgary, their new disc Brain, Heart, Guitar contains 13 addictive tunes that capture their playful and intense live sound.
Tickets are $34.95 in advance and $39.95 at the door.
Pick them up at the Lotus or Bell Fever.
